Featured Artist: Zoe Keating

This week, we have an artist portrait instead of a specific album review. I recently discovered Zoe Keating, a musician who captivated me with her amazing talent, and wanted to feature a couple of her videos and songs with you.

First, a brief background of this cello savant: She is not your typical cello player. She’s had history with Rasputina, Tears for Fears, Imogen Heap, DJ Shadow, and several soundtrack recordings, but her own solo creations are wonders to be had.

Keating’s genius sound-sample layering creates a cinematic and intensely beautiful soundscape. Simply put, on her own site she is referred to as a one-woman orchestra. She plays with great fervor, unmatched by any other. Even after reading a little bit about her and hearing a handful of songs, it’s not difficult to determine that she is one of the most fascinating musicians I’ve encountered.

I guess I am just so awestruck by her that I wanted to put a few songs out there and have you hear for yourself. Get lost in the beautiful world Zoe creates! The way her songs transpire, I am overwhelmed with a variety of emotions. Each layer of sound brings forth a new feeling and brings you on an amazing creative journey.

I hope Zoe Keating’s music inspires you as much as it did me. Take some time and get to know her; her website is full of neat things and much more to discover.
